MISSION
LO-FI encourages, excites & promotes the enjoyment of human-powered activities

HUMAN POWERED WHAT?
What is a Human-Powered Activity?
How do we define it?
Do we have to?

The LO-FI team are a diverse group primarily united by our passion for the bicycle. Thus, LO-FI’s initial programs are currently focused on bicycle-related activities. But that doesn’t mean that we are limiting our activities to one category;  we run, we climb mountains, we walk dogs, we ski, we parent, and we fly kites.

WHY FUN?
LO-FI is dedicated to making human-powered activities fun because we’re all more likely to repeat things we enjoy. Human-powered activities improve our lives in many ways, both immediately and for the long-term. When fun is the incentive, we get and keep people active, and these behavioral changes unlock a whole host of secondary benefits, including:

  • Better Health and Longer Life Reduces obesity, lowers risk of heart disease, diabetes, et. al.
  • Community Strength It’s easy to get to know your neighbors when you’re at the helm of your own destiny, and they see you having fun doing it.
  • Green Living Among the phenomenal side-effects of human-powered activities are reduced emissions and a lower impact on our physical world.
  • Happiness = Positivity! It's proven that those who smile, laugh, and play on a daily basis, lead more satisfying lives.

As LO-FI grows, we will continue to develop new programs to encourage a variety of human-powered activities. From the father that wheels his toddler to the park, to the social rider, to those may be venturing out for a first walk around a new neighborhood or trying to find another way to get to work-all of these activities are crucial to LO-FI’s mission.

Whether you are on bicycle, on foot, on roller blades or jumping around on a pogo-stick, it is unimportant to us what mode you choose, as long as it’s human powered!

HOW DO WE ACCOMPLISH THIS? WE...
Encourage human-powered activities By ensuring these activities are more accessible, enjoyable, and safe, LO-FI helps create rewarding experiences, which in turn increases the likelihood that these activities become part of people’s everyday life, not just a one time event! Relevant programs: RideSafe, LightLockLid, as well as social, recreational and health-oriented events promoted by LO-FI.

Excite the masses to become more active on a daily basis LO-FI provides opportunities for participants of all ages to get up, get out, and get active. From our experience, many find their  first taste of being more active easier when they are with other people.  We choose the best active and social events to guide our audience and ensure their experience is fun, social, and repeatable.

Promote activity-themed events LO-FI has decades of experience designing polished events. These signature events raise the awareness of our programs, increase visibility of human-powered activities, and raise funds for our work. Relevant programs: i (heart) cruisers, RidetoberFest, and other social events that encourage active lifestyles.

HISTORY
In 1997, a Denver-based gallery owner and a group of artists founded Lovers Of Fresh Ideas Artist Coalition (LO-FI) with the goal to support public and performance art, host events, and raise funds to engage the public in the activity of creating their own art. LO-FI’s current leadership believes promoting human-powered activities is public performance art. We only have to look as far as the Denver Cruiser Ride for proof! Westword, Denver’s weekly arts and culture magazine, who said it best when talking about the weekly cruiser bicycle gathering, calling it “...street theater made in heaven...”

IF IT IS HUMAN-POWERED, WE EMBRACE IT
LO-FI is now re-energized and is poised to become the though- leader in the human-powered movement, and true to our mission, our work is to encourage people to be more active in their daily lives, and speak to "ordinary" folks around the U.S. and inspire them top make new choices as to how they move themselves from Point A to Point B.

We’re just beginning to write a new history, won’t you join us?
